Julia is a behavioural ecologist and Senior Lecturer in Conservation Biology in the Department of Agriculture and Environment. She has extensive business and project management experience and has secured significant funding for a number of projects including the Paludiculture Innovation Project (PIP see: here) which was part of the £5 million Natural England Paludiculture Exploration Fund, and the Patchy Peat Solutions Project (PPS see: here) which was part of the £3.1 million Environment Agency Lowland Agricultural Peat Water Discovery Pilot (LAPWD). She was Principal Investigator on the PPS.
Her prime research interests relate to sustainable landuse, landscape resilience and ecosystem function, and the ecology, behaviour and conservation of birds mammals. She works closely with CIEEM and the North Shropshire Farmers and works closely with a number of stakeholders, e.g. the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, in improving the effectiveness of EIA and the monitoring of biodiversity. She is currently supporting Natural England (Meres and Mosses) and Attingham Park National Trust with thier Nature Recovery Project which is also part of the Stepping Stones Project. Julia is happy to discuss ideas for Honours or Masters Research Projects and self-funded Ph.D.s. She is a member of a number of HAU research groups but is keen to work collaboratively to support cross cutting and innvative initiatives.
